Hello to you all. My prefered name is Bri and I am 52 years old. I came into survivalism and prepping via the adverse posts I received on many folkish groups around the www. I live in Essex with my wife, son and elderly father. Most my immediate family are preppers to some degree and some, my brother, has awakened and is stepping up in an encouraging direction. All told I make provisions for about 12 of us +/- and our food prepps are aimed at the 2 month mark. I am a fan of the military kit which I consider tried and tested. I also know there is a time and place for such kit and the grey-man approach has its place foremost before any cammo needs be switched to. I personally think we will see a gradual train crash scenario and experience the falling of society into a chaos of riots and shortages in our shops. I also believe that city/town dwelling will become unsustainable and unsafe so therefore facilitate the need for gathering in groups of known and trusted survivalists to wait out the carnage. I also acknowledge that prepps can and do come in handy in minor domestic problems and me and mine have had plenty of need to dip into the collective prep pot once or twice. We always replace the odd tin or purchase batteries when used. Saeward, my good friend, and I decided a WHB survival and prepping forum was needed as most forums seem hung-up on BOBs and EDCs. The aim of this forum is to formulate a workable plan to survive as a folk well after the need of a 72 hour BOB has passed. Another aim of out group is to find and include fellow awake folk to our ranks. You that have the WHB patch are welcome to see those people around you, vet them, speak to them and put them forward for inclusion. The less headless chickens when the SHTF the better for establishing a group of active survivalists with various needed talents. With that I'll just say welcome to the forum and remember, For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack !

Good post mate..
I suppose I've always been into survivalist ideas since my time in the army, as I've mentioned before I've collected bits and bobs of Kit and various stuff over the years, from "Army & Navy Stores" since I agree Military Kit is triad and tested in extreme situations..
I agree with the out look of "The Grey Man" keeping a low profile and preparing for the time, I've had it with politics, and have gradually backed away from it, and into the shadows, politics is doing nothing and leading us know where, but into decline and collapse into disaster..
Most of you who've met me, know my name so there is no need to go into it here.. unfortunately I'm the only one who's into survival, my Missus hasn't real thought about it and my daughter prefers to believe everything is fine, I've tried to wake her up but its simply brought us to arguments so I don't bother any more, but will be their when the time comes, she's my only child, so you understand??
I have no Elder folk to think of, so its me, my Wife and Daughters family to watch over!!

Hereward, I understand fully my friend. This is where we separate ourselves from the Jeremy Kyle show dross, rather than just giving up on our families we, as head of said families, keep them in mind vis our plans for future needs.

Exactly mate, I keep hoping she'll awaken to the situation, but I'm afraid it will take a complete shock to wake her up?? So like it or not, she'll be coming with us, I can't leave her to it, so I'll be bringing them with me to the RV when the SHTF!!

Good introduction Bri,
I myself got tired of political talk, and moved onto something more productive. Which was prepping. It's also very fun. I already had an interest in self sufficiency and I'm more of a traditional person, hence the butchery trade.
Folk are divided, that's what politics does and although there are many groups - none seem to be going anywhere. So I'm here ready to invest time and energy into something I truly believe in and should be the route that people decide to take.
Preparing. I'd sooner talk surviving than a debate in parliament.

We'll need trades like Butchery mate, and other traditional trades, to start again, and the feed ourselves.. Yes politics has gotten us no where, is why I backed away, we'll need to find away to govern ourselves in the Tribe/Pack...

Hereward, To govern ourselves is a very good question and one that should be worked out well before the time to bug-out and gather at any RV. I think in the fullness of time when most of the WHB are here we should make a thread on post collapse governance ! As for trades I think we have most slots covered there between members. My Amateur Radio knowledge should allow me to construct a few things that would generate electric, not huge amounts but enough. 'Borrowing' a shite load of domestic solar panels could have us with a better power supply. Things need not be too bleak if the homework id done before the SHTF.

Bri, are you still considering a "'Huscarl' sorta' thing within the WHB?

Oathsworn, Saeward and myself set this forum up for the existing WHB members and those that will come to the WHB via networking with existing members. I don't have any great aspirations of being a leader so to some degree rank is of second importance. What is of greater import is that we know who we are and know where we are going when things go pop. Nobody can know the totality of skills within the body of the folk until each steps forward at the given time. There may be a need for rank at some time but is social rank not one of the reasons we are in a mess today with the 'them and us' ideology ? A Witan is another thing, I have time to run a forum but a Witan would need wiser men than I to be part of. Let's grow the membership and we'll do the democratic thing and put it to a vote !

Bri,
Sounds good too me. Have one group committed to prepping and that'd be it. If need of a Witan, then there can be a vote on it.
Sounds good!

Bri I suppose you are correct Bri., the governing of the Pack/Tribe I'm sure we'll come to some better set up than we are in now, as far as so called governance is concerned.. Solar panels, yea a good idea, we'll need some sort of way to freeze meat, to avoid sickness, and such problems, so generators will come in handy, and mechanic/mechanic's to keep such machines..

Hi Bri,
I was pointed in your direction by a mutual friend I believe.
Anyway, I'm Paul, 51 and living in Doncaster, South Yorks, married with 3 grown up kids who've all flown the nest. Ex military, which started my interest in everything to do with the outdoors, something I've built on over the years.
My forte is 18th century living, my kit reflects this, simple, hard wearing and practical (with practice). Sub consciously I've always been a prepper and I do my best to use whatever I find around me, which is a never ending project. The obvious being jam, chutney and wine making.
I have access to some old disused quarry workings locally which have been reverting to nature for several years, but these are my 'playgrounds.' I try and get out most weeks for an overnighter. Still settling into the new house so hoping to explore other local areas and get to stay out for longer as and when. I'm disabled, not hugely, but it does limit what I can do and where I can get to, so the old quarries are good for me, seldom visited even by dog walkers, plenty of food to be had, fresh water and enough dead wood to not have to cause any damage. I'm looking at building a semi permanent shelter there to further explore what the area has to offer.
Any questions feel free to ask, that was just a brief introduction to myself.
Paul.

Paul. Hi Ranger and sorry for taking my time in getting back to you. Yes, as Hereward says, Welcome and I believe I'll see our mutual friend tomorrow (Tuesday) I too am a bit buggered due to an accident and am working on rebuilding strength in my back and neck, bollocks to what the doctors say !! I'm a year older than thee but alas I was not allowed to serve due to having a hip replacement at the age of 5, a thing that automatically failed me at the medical stage over 30 years ago. I think I tried about 6 times to join the Army over a 3 year period, it became a bit of a joke when I turned up every few months ! As you can see this is a new forum and I look forward to it growing with the input from like minded people who know what's likely to be around the corner. My period of interest is the Anglo-Saxon and Viking era, my period of interest use to be between opening time and last orders Welcome again, Bri

Welcome Ranger, good to have you on board. It's also good to have ex-forces bods who know what they're doing, I'm sure your contributions will be much greater than ours!
