I run a smallholding out on the marlborough downs in wiltshire, i live in the famous village of Avebury and my rented land over looks silbury hill and a spit from the west kennet longbarrow. I run a small flock of shetland sheep which our norse cousins brought to these islands. I also keep a laying flock, ducks, geese and turkeys. Getting more land is hard as it's mostly National trust land. If anyone has an interest in livestock or smallholding just shout.

Hi Wulfsige,
Raven here, Nice to see folk running their own small holdings, it's always been a goal of mine. Do you slaughter your own livestock and prep the carcasses at all?
I was an assistant butchery manager and really enjoy the trade myself.

Hi Raven
Poultry i dispatch and prepare myself other than the turkeys. Pigs i send to the abattoirs but last lot we did butcher ourselves and also did sausages and bacon. Hams next time with my home made smoker. Sheep i also send to the abattoirs and used their butchers this time as i'm out of action at the moment after a bad RTA.

Wulfsige,
I hope you and I cross paths one day and for you to teach me those skills. I truly admire your position with livestock, I one day want to see myself in your shoes.

I'm sure you will get the opportunity at some point, finding land to rent is the hard part. No doubt our paths will cross.
