Hi folk, I've just been directed to this virtual High frequency system. It works via software defined radio through your PC or mobile phone. It's free for a months then costs circa £20 thereafter. I've used it and spoken all around the world on the 10 virtual HF bands they offer. It works virtually the same as a real physical HF radio set and I'm quite impressed with its potential for a group comms system where we have members without amateur licences at this time. All you will need if using a PC is a set of USB headset mic and your good to go. If you sign up then PM me and I'll send you my call sign as I use my amateur call on there. www.hamsphere.com/Bri

I really enjoy this, now that I have this working. Finally! It's ideal to make contact with folk over the country, and I'd like to see more folk engaging with this as it's a basic introduction to radios and communications. It's also a means to practice, entirely ideal for the group.
It's very easy to use and to get into, and to re-iterate my point about introduction to radio's, I'm a firm believer that for a successful prep group, radios and communications are going to be absolute vital to survival. Relaying information between groups and the group itself will help us understand our situation much better. This will iron out the blurs of information and rumours with no valid source that may come our way.
For this on the WHB, please consider this as a means to introduce yourselves to HF. This stuff is excellent, and as I believe - a necessity.

Thank You Raven. I agree 100% with the post above which you make. These SDR radio systems will only work as long as we have power getting to the internet servers. However, in the coming weeks I will post a few links and ideas on cheap VHF/UHF hand held radios which can be charged by inexpensive solar rigs. Further to my worry about comms in a falling/fallen society, I have just bought what is lovingly known as a 'shack in a box'. This radio allows me to have access to most the bands that will begin to relay intel gathered from survivalist groups and patriot news networks from around the world. My intention is that the intel will be then spread from my quite well equipped radio hub via our WHB members, gods Kal thinks I spend far to much time on my radios already lol. So, let's think about using the SDR system while the grid is still up and perhaps spare £20 for a VHF/UHF walkie-talkie per family group. I think the solar rig that Chris made us cost around £50 quid but when the power goes out it'll have been £50 well spent. My new multi-mode radio is also able to work off a 13.8 V battery system so it could even be transported to a BOL to keep us in the survival loop.
If you have any questions on radio I'll do my best to answer them.
