Thought I’d share details of my survival kit, what I’ve got and recommend and what I need to add to it. As you can see, I’ve thrown an obscene amount of money into this so far lol
1. Tools
Survival knife
Bushcraft knife
Tomahawk - looks cheap and shite, I guarantee you it's not.
The last thing I’d like to add to this is a small knife for skinning animals, etc.
2. Water
Bottle (with filter) - this will filter basically everything, with a lifespan of about 350 litres
Billy can - for boiling water or cooking in. It also comes with a small dish that can be used as a bowl.
Mug - can also be used as a mini billy can.
3. Fire
Firesteel
I also have a leather tinder pouch and a traditional Viking flint and steel kit. I’m also considering getting hold of a ‘cheat’ way of lighting a fire, perhaps a descent quality lighter or storm-proof matches.
4. Shelter
Tarp
Hammock (with built-in mosquito net)
Hammock underblanket - this prevents body heat from escaping from below.
The final component to my shelter set up is a thick wool blanket, which I’ve yet to buy.
5. Food / Food gathering
Folding survival bow - easier to conceal and carry than a crossbow! I still need to get arrows and hunting points for this.
Crossbow - I think we're all familiar with this one! For this I still need some better quality bolts and hunting points. I’ve also upgraded the scope with one of these.
Air rifle - capable of taking out rabbits and gamebirds.
I need to add snares and some kind of fishing kit, these are far more subtle means of gathering food than carrying around a weapon.
As for eating utensils, I’ve already got the bowl that came with the billy can, so all I need is a spork of some kind.
