Hereward, Nope, you have far from blown your place mate. Your collection of kit is a part of prepping and the questions each and everyone of us ask is a good thing. Questions turn the group to considering the needs of all the group inclusive. Even that brain you have is a potential that must be used by the group, as are the collective brains of the group as each person has skills to pass to others. Finally, If I was in a group that everyone had no questions or differing views I would think it a very strange group of sheep. Bri, Admin 1 who is about to go and buy more preps with his son. Thanks mate.. Question, do we have any Brewers on here, for the future of the Tribe, Mead, Ale and such?? Perhaps you yourself mate?? Scadugaden on ASF has experience in brewing Mead and Ale I believe...!!

Hereward, Oh I dabble with mead and I have a stash of high alcohol turbo yeast in my box of things to take when the SHTF. Funny enough Saeward and I were talking about natural ways to produce yeast, or I think it was Saeward.
My brother also brews beer so one way or another we'll be OK

I've made mead in the past. It wasn't the best, but it could certainly pass the boring nights away without the internet, lol.

To be honest, I don't think there will be that much of need for alcohol at first. I have a funny feeling one of the last things that will be left in the shops when everything else is gutted will be the expensive spirits. That said, who knows. Once everyone starts dropping like flies maybe everyone will become raging alcoholics.
In the long-term, there is a lot to be said for being able to brew something that's at least drinkable. It's a trading commodity, not to mention that for any local groups you befriend, making the traditional pub again becomes integral to forming a larger community.

As aside from just drinking the stuff, a still in a WROL scenario would be a good idea for distilling spirit for wound cleaning and other medical uses, No Hereward, a dry throat is not a medical emergency lol.

One the members of Wulfcynn designed and made a still out of metal beer barrels and a copper piping. If you want I could get him to explain it and I'll post some pictures ? We're going to run some mead through it one I've brewed it. So a while off yet. He reckons the Vikings distilled mead. Though I personally have never heard of that.

Distilling a drink already around the 14% mark? Fuck me that'll be moonshine!

Yes Please aethelwulf, I have a basic idea of how to construct a still but any real working tutorials would always help. I think that if you distill mead you get something akin to white rum. Watch the eyesight though :-)

Oh well it's good for taking the easy way out if you find yourself in a dire situation, lol. Probably one of the better ways off this mortal coil.

Probably good for cleaning spirit or burning spirit if truth to tell.
I think vodka mash has a really low Alc % before they distil it, so yep, probably blow the brains out.

There's plenty of moonshine going around these parts anyway Saeward. I've seen blokes that can hold plenty of Vodka come completely unstuck on a double of Poitin... I've fell victim to its GBH myself a couple of times... Wake up with a hangover from Hel, take a glass of water and you're pissed again... Hard stuff... My mate just distills barley based , so whiskey... I'll get him to forward some pics and a design breakdown. He's in prague atm, so it'll be a little while away.
